The Detroit Lions have one of the best offenses in the NFL, if not the very best. Sam LaPorta is a key figure in their offense and why they are so good.

LaPorta has been one of the best tight ends in the NFL since being drafted by the Lions with the 34th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed a fine debut season in the league, recording 86 receptions, 889 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. His brilliance secured him a place in the Pro Bowl, while he was also voted as a second-team All-Pro.

LaPorta hasn't been able to replicate the success he had in his first season in the league, but he has still been impressive. However, he may not be with the Lions much longer.

Sam LaPorta Calls Out Detroit Lions Over Contract Situation

LaPorta is scheduled to be a free agent in 2027. He would no doubt he be one of the top free agents regardless of position.

The Lions and LaPorta attempted to reach an agreement over a long-term contract in the opening weeks of the campaign, but the two parties could not make a deal and talks broke down, according to NFL Network.

The 25-year-old has now vented his frustration at his contract situation on Barstool's "Pardon My Take" podcast.

Laporta called out the Lions, saying that 'they're just not showing the love' despite him breaking his back for the team in 2025. He said that he'd be happy to go elsewhere should they not pay him what he thinks he is worth.

He said: "I think the combination of getting your heartstrings twisted as well as the violent sport that we play, it sucks.

"It’s disappointing that you go out there every week and bear the risk of getting hurt. Like last year, I broke my f---ng back for the team. And then I’m going out there this year, and I’m balling, and maybe they’re just not showing the love.

"I’m going to continue to do my thing and ball out, and in three months, if I don’t get to wear the Honolulu blue and play for the Lions anymore, it’s going to be all good. I’ll go get paid somewhere else. So whatever."

Laporta has recorded 213 receptions, 2,424 total yards and 23 touchdowns in his Lions career. He has 27 receptions for 316 yards and three touchdowns this season.
