Julian Nagelsmann has been warned against taking the Manchester United job by Oliver Kahn due to the recent shortcomings of previous managers at Old Trafford. With Michael Carrick under pressure, United could be looking for their fourth permanent head coach in just two years.
The humbling 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League made it seven games without a win for United. Sunday's Premier League clash at home to Bournemouth is now being viewed as critical to his chances of staying in the role.
United have subsequently been linked with some potential replacements including Fabian Hurzeler and Unai Emery. The Brighton boss and Aston Villa head coach are candidates currently employed with Eddie Howe and Kieran Mckenna as others mooted that are out of work.
Nagelsmann also fits that category after his exit from Germany following a sub-par World Cup campaign. The 39-year-old would reportedly be open to replacing Carrick but he has been warned against taking it by former German goalkeeper Kahn, who also hinted at why United should not appoint the ex-Bayern Munich boss.
He said: “From his point of view, it's not an easy situation. He isn't someone with a great deal of experience, particularly when it comes to foreign teams.”
On the RTL/Sky Germany show Triple - der Hagedorn Fußballtalk, Kahn added: “The Premier League and Manchester United have not been known for much continuity in the managerial position in recent years.

“He has to ask himself, 'what is my next step? Does it have to be the right one? Or do I immediately associate it with an enormous risk like Manchester United, where essentially every manager in recent years has failed sooner or later?' You should look very carefully at where you're going.
“Bayern Munich and the national team were already big blows for him. You have to think carefully, 'where do my strengths lie? Which club can I really help?'
"I think Julian is someone who can develop a club and a team and take them further. Whether Manchester United are the right next step for that is something only he can know.”
United have gone down the experienced route while also employing former players and young exciting coaches with nothing working thus far.
With a Premier League proven manager now appearing a crucial requirement, Emery is arguably the best fit for United's requirements. Antonio Conte also has plenty of experience in management and England but the former Napoli boss released a statement.
The ex-Tottenham and Chelsea has hit out at "unfounded" reports that he has been making demands to clubs with it made clear that "no negotiations at an advanced stage".
