12 former footballers got into the ring on Thursday evening as they took part in A Night to Remember III at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The charity event was put on by Pro Project Promotions. The organisation, which was founded by former goalkeeper Graham Stack, aims to unite retired athletes in purpose-driven events that channel their competitive spirit towards making a positive impact.

The organisation recognises the physical and mental challenges of post-retirement life and provides ex-pros with structure, goals, and a platform to give back.

Pro Project Promotions raised over £201,500 for charity across its first two events. The first of which was held in London in October 2025, with the second taking place in Liverpool in April.

They will announce how much money they raised from the third event in due course, where several former Premier League footballers battled it out.

Six boxing matches took place on Tuesday evening. Lee Cook defeated Martin Woods on points, with Anthony Gardner also beating Matthew Briggs on points.

Gary Madine, who played in the Premier League with Cardiff City, overcame former Swindon Town defender Jamie Sendles-White by split-decision.

David Norris defeated Simon Cox by TKO in round three, while Harlee Dean, who represented the likes of Birmingham City and Brentford in his playing career, stopped former Premier League striker Leroy Lita following a barrage of punches.

The main event saw former Tottenham Hotspur defender Sebastien Bassong go up against ex-Arsenal full-back Armand Traore. It was Bassong who picked up the north London derby bragging rights as he stopped his opponent in round three.

Bassong played 71 times for Tottenham from 2009-2012. The Cameroonian, who was capped 19 times by his country, also played Premier League football for Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norwich City.

Traore joined Arsenal at the age of 15, and he went on to represent their first-team on 32 ocassions. The former Senegal international also turned out for the likes of Juventus, Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff City and Nottingham Forest.

Former Newcastle striker Nile Ranger and ex-Arsenal ace Jay Emmanuel-Thomas were meant to contest the main event on Thursday evening, but the fight did not take place as Ranger was forced to withdraw on the night.

Stack told the Sun after Ranger pulled out: “If fighters don’t hit certain targets and they’re not fit to fight, we will take no gambles and no risks.

“Unfortunately, Nile Ranger’s blood pressure was too high. We checked him again an hour and a half later and it was still too high.

“We have to take their advice because we don’t want anyone getting hurt. We don’t want to put anyone at risk. I have got to look out for the fighter’s safety.”

Stack still thinks the night was a success. He said on Friday morning: “Last night was everything this promotion is about. These lads put the work in for months, stepped into the ring in front of a packed Grosvenor and gave everything for a good cause.

"It was a shame not to see Nile and Jay share the ring, but fighters' health will always come first with us, and it was the right call.

"We'll be announcing the final total very soon, and I know it's going to take us a big step closer to our £500,000 target. Thank you to every fighter, every sponsor and everyone who bought a ticket.”
