The India domestic season is underway as the teams have been participating in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2026/27 season. During the Ranji Trophy Elite C Group match between Bengal and Maharashtra, the latter won the match comfortably by 10 wickets at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. After the match, Maharashtra captain Prithvi Shaw shared his insights on making a comeback to the India team.
The India National Cricket Team is currently in New Zealand for the full tour, as they won the T20I series and now have a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series; next, they will be up for the two-match Test series. With a huge pool of players across formats for the Men in Blue, it will be difficult for Prithvi to come back.
After the win, Prithvi Shaw, while speaking to the media, was asked about a comeback to the national side, and he replied that he always has a comeback in mind; however, he wants to stay at the present rather than thinking about the future. As he will return back to the dressing room and think about the next game.
“There is always a thought at the back of the mind. But as much as I have experienced, I should not think so much ahead. Like I am giving you an interview now. After this, I will go to the room and then think what to do. I don’t think more than that. Just keep winning games. Have good training. Eat well,” he said.
Speaking about his performances, Prithvi Shaw revealed that sometimes there will be bad phases, and he is not worried about recent dismissals, as he believes his batting is going well and he is just one good innings away from a turnaround. The India batter is enjoying his time as a Maharashtra player.
“I feel in matches, some innings will go badly, and some will go well. After I get out, I don’t feel I should take much tension because there were some good balls, and in some, I have got out playing my own shots. So I feel in all these innings, there is no problem with the start. The batting is good; nothing is going wrong. It’s just a matter of one innings,” he said.
“It’s a very good phase. I feel Mumbai and Pune are not too far apart. There is a difference of 1.5 to 2 hours, and I know a lot of players. Ritu (Gaikwad), Ankit (Bawne). There are a lot of players with whom I have played, and there is a good bond. So I never felt that I have come so far from here. I am very comfortable, and I have enjoyed it a lot,” the batter said.
The former Mumbai opener has scored two half-centuries in seven innings this Ranji Trophy season, with his highest score of 70, which came against Delhi in Maharashtra’s opening match. Since then, he has scored 7, 21, 0, 17, and 12.
In the second innings of the match against Bengal, he played an aggressive innings, as he scored a 53 off 50 deliveries. This would increase his confidence, and he will look to score more runs this season.
