Legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar has shared his thoughts on Joe Root's incredible journey towards breaking his long-standing record for the most runs in Test cricket. Tendulkar revealed that he was always confident about Joe Root’s potential when he made his Test debut in 2012.

Root now needs only 1643 runs to break Tendulkar's record and become all-time leading run scorer in Test cricket. Tendulkar has also shared an interesting idea to bring changes to ODI cricket and make the game more balanced for both batters and bowlers. Earlier, Virat Kohli reveals his favourite innings on 38th Birthday.

Sachin Tendulkar backs Joe Root to break his Test record

During an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit recently, Sachin Tendulkar was asked about Joe Root's chase for the biggest run-scoring record in Test cricket.

The Indian legend responded with great respect for the England batter and revealed that he had seen something special in him when he made his Test debut against India in Nagpur in December 2012.

Tendulkar said, "I've always rated him very highly, and it was evident to me in his first test match that he was going to make it big!”

During the same interaction, Tendulkar was also asked about his favourite batters from outside India. He named England's Harry Brook and Joe Root, along with Australia's Steve Smith.

Interestingly, Tendulkar was also part of the Indian team during Root’s Test debut match in Nagpur. The young English batter made an impressive start by scoring 73 runs off 229 balls in the first innings. He remained unbeaten on 20 in the second innings as the match ended in a draw.

Since then, Root has established himself as one of the finest batters in world cricket. He has scored 14278 runs in 169 Test matches and 309 innings. The England captain is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the history of the longest format of the game.

Tendulkar still holds the top position with 15921 runs from 200 matches and 329 innings. Root now needs only 1643 more runs to take that record away from the Indian great. Amid this, 'Hardik Pandya was cornered at MI': Ambati Rayudu's bold claim.

Sachin Tendulkar comes up with new ODI format to restore balance between bat and ball

Tendulkar also suggested changing the current ODI format. He wants each team to play two innings of 25 overs instead of one continuous 50-over innings. However, the former Indian captain believes that the teams should have only 10 wickets across the full 50 overs, not 10 wickets in each innings.

He also wants just one ball to be used throughout the match. Tendulkar feels this system would keep the contest between bat and ball alive. The legendary cricketer believes that the game needs to find a solution to protect bowlers and maintain the balance in the game.

Tendulkar said, “My suggestion is simple. Split the 50 overs into two innings of 25 each. But keep 10 wickets for the full 50 overs and use just one ball throughout. That way the contest between bat and ball stays alive, and both teams get to bat and bowl under the dew. It balances the game for both sides. We need to do something before bowlers go extinct.”
