Tottenham Hotspur will have to wait longer before seeing Wilson Odobert back in competitive action. Manager Roberto De Zerbi has revealed that the talented French winger has not yet returned to full first-team training as he continues his recovery from a severe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, according to a report from Spurs Army on X.
Odobert suffered the painful blow back in February, cutting short an encouraging maiden season at N17 following his high-profile transfer from Burnley. Given the complex, demanding nature of ACL rehabilitation, Tottenham’s medical staff have opted for an extremely methodical approach, ensuring the 21-year-old achieves full functional recovery before returning to high-intensity group sessions.
Speaking to the press ahead of Tottenham’s upcoming fixtures, De Zerbi emphasized the necessity of patience when managing long-term knee injuries. While supporters are eager to see the explosive attacker back on the pitch, rushing a player back from an ACL tear carries significant risks of re-injury or secondary muscular complications.
During his time on the sidelines, Odobert has worked closely with specialist physical therapists at Hotspur Way, focusing on individual conditioning, knee stabilization, and restoring strength. Transitioning from solo field work to full-contact training with the main squad remains the final major hurdle in his rehabilitation program, a milestone the coaching staff will not fast-track until all biomechanical markers are satisfied.

Odobert’s ongoing absence leaves De Zerbi relying on his available wide options as Tottenham navigate a demanding domestic schedule. The recent return of Dejan Kulusevski has provided a welcome boost to the frontline, while summer acquisition Omar Marmoush and key creative hubs like James Maddison continue to shoulder the attacking burden.
Nevertheless, Odobert’s unique blend of direct dribbling, pace, and flair offers a distinct tactical dimension that Tottenham look forward to reintegrating in due course. For now, the player and the club remain fully focused on the final stages of his recovery process, prioritizing long-term physical durability over a hasty return to action.
