The debate over who deserves to be considered Bayern Munich’s greatest modern striker will inevitably include Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane. However, former Bayern defender Christian Ziege believes there is already a clear winner, and he does not think Kane needs to lift the Champions League trophy to settle the argument.
Ziege believes Kane has already surpassed Lewandowski in terms of his overall contribution to Bayern Munich, pointing to the England captain’s extraordinary work rate, creativity, and willingness to bring teammates into the game.
While Lewandowski was a phenomenal goalscorer who established an incredible legacy in Munich, Ziege argues that Kane offers considerably more than simply putting the ball in the back of the net.
“From my point of view, Harry Kane is already a better overall striker than Lewandowski,” Ziege told BOYLE Sports, who offer the latest football odds. “While a striker needs to be a little selfish to score goals, Kane’s work rate off the ball and his ability to set up teammates make him far superior. So for me, he is already the better striker, and he doesn’t need to win the Champions League to prove that he’s better than Lewandowski. That’s my perspective.”
There is another rather significant argument in Kane’s favor — he has already won the Ballon d’Or, adding individual recognition to his growing list of accomplishments in Munich.
Lewandowski set an extraordinarily high standard at Bayern Munich, but Kane is building a legacy of his own, and Ziege believes the discussion should already be settled.
Of course, that is going to be a rather entertaining debate among Bayern Munich supporters. Can Kane really be considered better than Lewandowski already, or does he still need to deliver a Champions League trophy in Munich to complete the argument?
At BFW, we have started this debate already.
