The 23-year-old, who is on loan at the Adams Park side from Stockport County, made his first league start for the Chairboys in two months and was involved throughout.
He had the first chance of the contest on three minutes, when he fired over a thunderous volley, before going close on two more occasions in the opening half.
A cross by the ex-Peterborough United man in the second half found Fred Onyedinma, whose knock down was converted by Cauley Woodrow who scored Wycombe’s second, after Jayden Wareham put Wanderers head on 15 minutes.
Hounsell now hopes Mothersille can continue from his impressive performance against the Brewers.
He said: “I thought he was excellent.
"We know we have players who can operate on that left side and really carry the ball, and we felt this would be a game for Malik because of his directness.
"It's a big squad and players have to wait for their opportunities, but the players are training really hard, showing great professionalism and taking those moments when they come.
"He brings a real difference to the team. He was somebody we were really keen to bring in during the summer.
"It has been unfortunate that things didn't quite work out for him at Stockport, but we knew his quality.
"We're really pleased he took his opportunity because I thought the way he carried the ball, and the way he combined with others, was really pleasing.
"He gave us a different outlet on the left-hand side."
