The Arizona Cardinals, after perhaps turning a corner in their season with a Week 6 win over the Los Angeles Rams, returned to their losing ways in Week 7, falling 30-16 to the Denver Broncos at home. After making gains in some power rankings, they slipped a bit after the loss.
In new week 8 NFL power rankings from USA TODAY's Nate Davis, The Cardinals moved back three spots, going from No. 23 to No. 26.
And the only thing worth mentioning is the production of tight end Trey McBride, who with 10 catches for 111 yards and a touchdown, leads the NFL with 59 receptions.
Could TE Trey McBride get to 150 receptions? He's already the first player in league history to catch at least seven balls in each of his team's first seven games.
It was his first game this season averaging more than 10 yards a catch. He is the lone bright spot in the Arizona offense.
The offense is 1-for-10 scoring touchdowns in the red zone in the last two games. The defense has allowed 30 or more points in their last five losses and in 11 of their last 17 games, dating back to last season.
Two weeks after trading away Marvin Harrison Jr., they lost WR Jalen Brooks to a broken wrist for the rest of the season.
Their next four games are against the Dallas Cowboys (who scored 38 on Monday), the Seattle Seahawks, LA Rams and Kansas City Chiefs. They will be lucky to get one win in that stretch.
Despite their first loss of the year, the San Francisco 49ers remained at No. 1.
The Seattle Seahawks moved up from No. 6 to No. 4 after dominating the Kansas City Chiefs, giving them their first loss of the season.
The Rams remained 13th after blowing out the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Cardinals are 26th.
