Rangers loanee Thelo Aasgaard has finally broken his duck for Anderlecht, and he did so in spectacular fashion during Saturday’s 4-1 thrashing of KVC Westerlo.

It had taken Aasgaard nine appearances and 523 minutes of action across all competitions to open his scoring account since arriving in Belgium. However, he made the wait worthwhile with a moment of pure individual brilliance just before the interval.

With Anderlecht already comfortably leading 2-0 in the 45+1st minute, Aasgaard stepped up to take a direct free-kick roughly 30 yards out from goal.

Aasgaard whipped a venomous, curling strike that bypassed the defensive wall entirely and screamed straight into the bottom-right corner. Westerlo goalkeeper Andreas Jungdal was left no chance of stopping it despite diving full stretch, entirely powerless to prevent a goal of the highest order.

The strike was so impressive that DAZN Belgium featured the footage prominently on their official Instagram account on Sunday (1 November) morning, capturing the attention of supporters across Europe. The caption read:

Is there a better way to score your first goal than with a direct free kick? 🤩💫

Rangers duo Bojan Miovski and Tochi Chukwuani react to Thelo Aasgaard’s free-kick goal

Aasgaard’s milestone moment did not go unnoticed back in Glasgow either. Eager to show their support from afar, Rangers first-team stars Bojan Miovski and Tochi Chukwuani were among the high-profile football figures to ‘like’ DAZN’s post celebrating the loanee’s maiden strike.

As Aasgaard continues to adapt to Belgian football at Anderlecht, adding elite ball-striking and set-piece prowess to his locker will only bolster his long-term prospects if he returns to Ibrox as a more rounded, battle-tested midfielder.

Anderlecht have the option to make the Norway international’s move to Belgium permanent for £6million. However, it remains to be seen if they will trigger the option, with the Ibrox midfielder only having one goal to show for his nine appearances so far.

Meanwhile, Aasgaard showed that he is still keeping tabs on Rangers’ progress under Derek McInnes. The Gers loanee hit ‘like’ on one of Rangers’ posts on their official Instagram handle, highlighting Ryan Naderi’s winning goal in their 1-0 victory over Aberdeen in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park on Saturday.
