Rangers will be impacted in many ways if the 3pm blackout is lifted in Scottish football.

This would benefit the game in Scotland in all tiers and be a potential turning point in British football as well, following a report from Sport Business.

The SPFL have stated that they are flexible about the number of games shown on TV for the next broadcasting rights cycle. This includes showing games at 3pm on Saturday.

TalkingPoints

Scottish football chiefs are considering bringing an end to the Saturday 3pm blackout. What are your thoughts on that? Will it help or hinder things?

How Rangers stand to make up to £4m from no 3pm blackouts

Currently, the domestic rights in Scotland are worth around £35m per year. Prize money is also distributed based on league finishes, and unlike the Premier League, there is no big equal share.

With the blackout lifted, Rangers and all other clubs stand to benefit from a larger prize pot. A Scottish Football Info report states that clubs could be targeting north of £60m under this change cycle.

While the exact increase in the pool is still unclear, based on current estimates, it could be between £2m and £4m extra for the club per year.

Given the fact that the Gers consistently have been finishing in the top two, they benefit from a solid percentage of the Scottish Premiership pool. An increase will thus see more money coming into the coffers at Ibrox.

Rangers could generate even more through sponsorships

There would also be increased commercial income as the exposure would significantly rise. This could see better kit deals for the most-followed clubs, thus adding more money to the Scottish game.

The Gers have always been critical of the valuation of the product, and may be proven to be right.
