Unbroken Halys beats Wimbledon semi-finalist Fery for first Paris Masters win
Quentin Halys, Rolex Paris Masters 2026

Quentin Halys never lost his serve as he beat Britain’s Arthur Fery 7-6 (6), 7-5 in the first round of the Rolex Paris Masters on Tuesday, his first win at the event. The Frenchman, ranked No. 46, will face seventh seed Frances Tiafoe in the second round.

Halys had lost in the first round in his two previous main-draw appearances in Paris, in 2022 and 2024. He had also won only one of his eight tour-level matches on indoor hard courts since the start of 2025.

How Halys kept his serve intact against Fery

The Kitzbuhel champion held all 12 of his service games and hit 17 aces in 1 hour 39 minutes on Court 1. He won 87 percent of the points behind his first serve (41 of 47).

The opening set went with serve to a tie-break, in which Halys saved two set points before winning it 8-6. In the second, he saved two break points at 1-2 and another at 3-4.

The only break of the match came at 5-5, on Halys’ first opportunity. He served it out on his first match point.

The win is Halys’ 25th of the season, making him the third French player to reach that mark in 2026 after Arthur Fils and Ugo Humbert.

Fery, 24, was playing his first match in Paris at a career-high No. 32. He reached the Wimbledon semi-finals as a wildcard this year and his first final at Winston-Salem in August, where he lost to Ignacio Buse 6-3, 6-2.

Halys joins Luca Van Assche, who beat Mariano Navone 6-3, 7-5, and Humbert, who beat Botic van de Zandschulp 7-6 (5), 6-7 (9), 6-3, among the French players into the second round. Arthur Rinderknech also went through on Tuesday when 16th seed Francisco Cerundolo retired 3-6, 7-6 (2), 2-0.
