Aside from a few disappointing early exits at big tournaments, Ben Shelton has enjoyed a fantastic season on the ATP Tour.

The 24-year-old American has captured four tour-level titles, including his second ATP Masters 1000 crown in Canada, and reached a maiden Grand Slam final at the US Open. On Sunday, it was revealed that Shelton will add Juan Carlos Ferrero to his team in 2027, putting an end to the endless speculation around the unnamed player the 46-year-old Spaniard had planned to reveal he would be working with next year.

This time last year, Shelton was still in pursuit of points to qualify for the ATP Finals. This time around, however, he has already punched his ticket to Turin.

Ben Shelton speaks ahead of the 2026 Paris Masters

“I’m super happy with the position that I put myself in,” said Shelton in an interview with Tennis TV ahead of the Paris Masters. After a lot of ups and downs this year, some really difficult parts of the season. That US summer swing, I really showed up.

“I played well. I was consistent all the way through. I did things the right way and was able to put together two really good tournaments. For me, my last big goal this year is Turin. To show out in Turin and have a big performance there. I think that I’m ready to do that. I’m super excited to be there again.

Ben Shelton points to his ear

“I think with my return to serve, I’ve made so many improvements. But I think mentally as well, I’ve made a lot of improvements. The early spring-summer part of the season was pretty tough. I took a lot of early losses on the clay. Went out early at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, which was really disappointing for me.

“I think the way that I was able to train after that and bounce back and go from not really in contention for the tour finals. To putting myself in a commanding position after the US Open, going back-to-back in Canada and making my first Slam final.

“I think if you had told me that I was going to do that right after Wimbledon, I probably would have said no chance. The tennis season is funny. It’s difficult. It’s a rollercoaster. But we’re at the end of the season again.”

Shelton is one of four players to have officially qualified for the ATP Finals, along with Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev. He is seeded third at the 2026 Paris Masters and will take on either Cameron Norrie or Matteo Arnaldi in his opening match.
