The FA Cup is a competition that has seen it all.
From giant-killings to wonder goals to unprecedented moments, one of the world’s most historic football competitions always delivers events to remember.
Football managers often concede to players.
For most, it happens every week.
For former Manchester United midfielder Robbie Savage, seeing his son Charlie, who also played for the Red Devils until 2023, score against him in the FA Cup will have been a mind-blowing moment.
Robbie, who was part of United’s famous 1992 FA Youth Cup-winning side alongside the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt, was recently appointed as manager of League One side Peterborough United.
Peterborough were drawn against Reading in the first round of the FA Cup, with the game taking place on Saturday 7th November.
The 51-year-old’s son, Charlie, departed Manchester United in 2023, heading to League One outfit Reading to sign a four-year deal.
Charlie Savage has since made over 150 appearances for the Royals, scoring 14 times before meeting Peterborough in the cup.
In added time of the first half, Savage scored a deflected effort, running to the Reading faithful in delight.
Reading won the encounter five-nil, putting serious pressure on Charlie’s Dad, Robbie in the Peterborough hotseat.
Peterborough have failed to win any of their six games since beating Leicester City in Savage’s first game in charge.
The irony that his son’s goal may just have contributed in him getting the sack really could be there, with pressure rising now.
Posh sit 22nd in the League One table, two points from safety.
Their status in England’s third tier is at serious risk.
Charlie Savage scores against his dad Robbie’s side! 😳
Reading make it 3-0 at Peterborough! 🔥
