Liverpool slumped to another Premier League home defeat as they were beaten into submission by Arsenal on Sunday afternoon. Kai Havertz scored the only goal of a desperately poor game on 16 minutes as the Reds dominated possession but were unable to manage a single shot on target, although Florian Wirtz did hit the crossbar.

The result means Andoni Iraola's side missed the chance to go back into the top four and saw a five-game winning run brought to an end in tedious fashion.

The ECHO was in attendance at Anfield and here we run the rule over the performances of the Liverpool players...

Alisson Becker 5

Scrambled to make one save first half but poor pass out of the back prompted opener. Decent stop from Christos Tzolis after break.

Ronald Araujo 6

Roused crowd with two meaty challenges before break but unable to offer quality going forward. Arsenal began to find gaps in behind the Uruguayan in final quarter. Subbed.

Jeremy Jacquet 7

Kept his composure up against the different test of Havertz, and one brilliant piece of defending after interval.

Virgil van Dijk 6

Attempted to get Liverpool going from the back with searching passes before break but stretched defensively on occasion. Needed to be alert as Arsenal pressed late on.

Milos Kerkez 5

Too many crosses found an Arsenal head and didn’t have a good time up against Noni Madueke but no faulting effort. Booked and subbed.

Trey Nyoni 6

Could have been censured more severely for two early challenges but certainly wasn’t overawed on his first Premier League start. Subbed.

Alexis Mac Allister 8

Easily Liverpool’s best player, strong in the challenge and sought to find gaps in and behind the Arsenal defence and sent header just over towards interval. Booked.

Cody Gakpo 6

Starting on the right, took a while to get going but pressing and running began to make inroads. Fewer such openings second half. Subbed.

Florian Wirtz 6

Flitted in and out of the game before interval but continued working to find spaces. More of the same second half and one pass released Isak for shot. Subbed.

Bradley Barcola 6

Should have done better with early opening but caused Arsenal issues before interval with direct running down left. Unable to make much impact second half, however. Booked.

Alexander Isak 6

Subdued in opening exchanges but then almost on end of Van Dijk header and off target with two other efforts. Should have had penalty when clearly tugged by Timber.

SUBS

Dominik Szoboszlai (for Nyoni 58) 6

A couple of strong runs on his return to action.

Rio Ngumoha (for Gakpo 67) 6

Didn't really get much out of the Arsenal defence.

Kostas Tsimikas (for Kerkez 81)

Not much impact.

Victor Munoz (for Araujo 81)

Tried a few runs down the right from full-back.

Lewis Koumas (for Wirtz 81)

Effort went unrewarded.
