Daniel Farke does not want James Trafford to dwell on his Bournemouth blunder

England international Trafford inexplicably played the ball straight to Justin Kluivert following a short goal-kick, allowing the Dutchman to tee up Evanilson for his fifth goal in six games.

Substitute Amine Adli sealed the Cherries’ third successive top-flight victory in added time.

Farke, who described Evanilson’s 31st-minute opener as “more or less an own goal”, said: “James is a terrific young goalkeeper. He was outstanding during this season.

“I’m pretty sure he will save us way more points than he perhaps has cost us today. But in general, we win together, we lose together.

“We’re all happy to have him. For me, he’s still top class and has all my trust and all my love.

“My recommendation is he shouldn’t watch the scene back – it makes no sense. Football can have annoying days and it was one of those days for him and also then more or less because of this for us. He won’t dwell on it.”

Leeds made a bright start at the Vitality Stadium and were denied an 11th-minute opener when Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s close-range finish was disallowed for handball following a VAR review.

Farke lamented the unforgiving nature of football after suffering only a second league defeat this season.

“Football is brutal, sometimes it can feel like the most unfair sport in the world because one goal is very often decisive,” he said.

“If you play basketball, you can be unlucky and hit the ring sometimes and the other team not. Or you play tennis and sometimes you are lucky or not but always the better player wins, or the better team wins.

“Football, because it’s very often just about one goal, it can be the other way around.

“First half, especially the first 30 minutes, we were terrific, played fantastic football, scored one of the best team goals of the season and thought we would be in the lead.”

Bournemouth leapfrogged Leeds in the table and have now won six successive games in all competitions without conceding.

Cherries head coach Marco Rose admitted his side rode their luck before growing into the contest.

“Leeds matched up our intensity, in the first 10, 15 minutes they were even better in this part,” he said.

“We lost some duels and then we conceded the goal, it was not given, lucky us, and then I felt we got a little bit better into the game.

“We rewarded ourselves for our front-footed approach, we won a high ball and scored an easy goal but it’s hard work. And then it was an open game, an open fight.

“It was a difficult game, difficult opponent and I’m really happy that we saw off the challenge.”

Speaking of in-form striker Evanilson, Rose added: “I just met him and said ‘you are a real number nine’. He’s working so hard for the team.

“He has to reward himself with goals, and that’s what he is doing finally and I just hope that he continues.”
