Highlights & Reaction to Bournemouth beating another former European Champion 3-0
Highlights & Reaction to Bournemouth beating another former European Champion 3-0

AFC Bournemouth have beaten their third former European Cup Winner 3-0 in less than a week.

Following victories over AC Milan in the UEFA Europa League and Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League, the Cherries knocked out Aston Villa from the Football League Cup at Dean Court on Wednesday night.

Both sides made sweeping changes to their starting XI, with Antonio Silva, Lewis Cook and Marcos Tavernier the only survivors from AFC Bournemouth’s victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

Despite the raft of changes, the selected side still played with the high press and attacking tempo, which overwhelmed Aston Villa on the night.

Goals from Amine Adli, Lewis Cook and Alvaro Rodriguez, secured the Cherries a place in the Quarter-Finals of the competition.

The draw was made shortly after the match and the Cherries have been handed a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, AFC Bournemouth head coach Marco Rose said…

“Clean sheet and three goals again – I could get used to it, but it’s hard work. It was a nice game to watch from both sides, and we are happy that we won.

“We had eight changes today, and everyone played on a really good level. We are relentless, so it’s the attitude and the effort. It showed we have competition, quality and that everyone is ready…”

“…It’s now about recovering, and don’t talk about what’s happened in the past.

“We need to go for more wins in the league as well, and our next challenge is Leeds.”

Just look at these results since our 5-1 loss to Chelsea

Bournemouth 3 – Sturm Graz 0
Bournemouth 2 – Sunderland 0
Bournemouth 3 – AC Milan 0
Man U 0 – Bournemouth 3
Bournemouth 3 – Aston Villa 0

14 goals scored, and zero conceded. Absolutely incredible run.

Very enjoyable.

Juanlu looked like Cafu at times and like Bradbury at others; there is definitely something to work with there.

The keeper looks solid, dealt well with what he had to. One moment he really should have played the sweeper-keeper role but chose to stay on his line, though.

Soler looks sensational in forward areas, defensively a bit vulnerable.

Diakite is actually pretty good in any situation where he isn’t having to engage physically with an opponent; it’s a shame that he doesn’t have that physicality because it means he can never really be relied upon as a regular starter despite having some strengths.

Cook is playing the best that he ever has; I genuinely have no idea where he’s managed to reach this level from.

Doak is electric, such an exciting player to watch. Struggles a bit with the tracking back but he can learn that.

Adli seems to have learned to play football; that is nice to see.

Alvaro is an enigma; he will either produce the sublime or the ridiculous. I quite like the look of him tbh; he’s clearly an upgrade on Unal.

It was almost the perfect match: we rested Eva, we won against a manager that has never lost to AFCB, Juanlu looks like a player, Alvaro getting another goal, Diakite with a steady performance, three goals scored, a clean sheet and a performance to match anything a regular starting 11 would put on. Rose is a genius. #RoseTints

12,162, I think this is the biggest attendance so far this season at Dean Court.

What we saw tonight is what depth we have in our squad now, with good performances from players that normally start on the bench.

Another very good team performance from our side, who are playing with so much confidence.

Well done, Marco Rose, who had a dodgy start, but now we are seeing the results from all the work being done on the training pitches.

This football stuff is easy eh. 3-0 again haha. That’s what, 14 goals since our last goal conceded.

Really impressed this season with Soler. Can see him progressing nicely. Diakite looks like a different, more composed player compared to last year. Juanlu, I had my doubts from the cameos we have seen, but this performance was great. Looked a bit shaky at the start with his first touch, but once he got confidence to bomb it past Gannon Doak, it was great to watch them link up. Adli still one my favourites, absolute amazing player always clutch. Great to see Kroupi back, and finally Alvaro is somehow becoming one of my favourite players. Really doubted his ability at the start, probably super premature, but in the past few appearances I’m really enjoying his link-up play and the different style of play he offers.

I think Marco Rose is really showing his valuable experience in rotating players and whatnot. Think that was 8 changes from the weekend and still looked super lively and competitive. Rested some super key players as well. – To join the conversation, please click here.
