The U’s head to second-bottom side Northampton Town, aiming to claim a first League Two win since August.

Thorn said: “I feel like the team’s been unlucky not to get three points recently. We’ve been getting a lot of draws – it will be nice to score or assist but I just want to get three points.

“It’s always fine margins in League Two – you never really see a high scoreline, especially with us.

“We’re really good defensively and we’ve got a really good attack, so we just need to put two and two together and hopefully, get three points.

"We know we're good enough, we know we're nearly there.

"I think once we have that one, we can go on a run - it's just getting past the last hurdle of getting three points but we know as a team that it's coming."

Thorn will be hoping to be back in Colchester’s starting line-up having come off the bench to good effect at Chesterfield in midweek.

The on-loan Lincoln City winger provided the cross for fellow substitute Ben Perry to head the U’s equaliser and earn a 1-1 draw at the SMH Group Stadium.

“Whether I’m starting or not, I just try to have a positive mindset when I’m on the pitch, at all times,” added Thorn, who now has five assists to his name this season.

“Whether I’m starting or not, I just try to have a positive mindset when I’m on the pitch, at all times.

“As soon as I have the ball, it’s always forward thinking for me.

“I want to make stuff happen, get at my man and that’s what I’ve been able to do.

“Every time that I come onto the pitch, I know that I can do stuff like that, put good balls in for my team-mates.

“I knew when I came onto the pitch, I wanted to make something happen whether that was a goal or an assist.

“When I had the ball out wide, I think my team-mates know how I play now and know just to get in the box, when I have the ball.

“That’s what Pez did and it was a great header from him.

“I saw him storming in the box – I think he came from the halfway line, so it was a pretty mental run!

“When I have the ball, I realise where I am on the pitch and what cross is required, try and put it in a good area and hopefully, my team-mates are there and Pez was there.”

Thorn now wants to add goals to his game, after providing plenty for his U’s team-mates.

“I think that’s the next thing I need to do,” he continued.

“I’m getting close – as the gaffer says, the football gods are not there for me, just yet!

“I’m sure it will come.“I can score goals and I feel like I’ve got a good shot on me, so hopefully when the first comes, they all start going in.”
