The League Two fixture in January will be shown on Sky Sports+, meaning supporters who are not attending the game will be able to watch it.
The change was confirmed as part of the latest round of EFL matches selected for television. Fixtures up to March 3 have now been announced.
Swindon’s visit to the AESSEAL New York Stadium will mean an early start for supporters travelling from Wiltshire. The journey is around 170 miles and takes about three hours by road, making it an early start for fans looking to get up to Yorkshire by lunchtime.
The match was originally scheduled for a later kick-off, but will now begin at 12.30 pm. It is one of two Swindon away fixtures moved to an early start, alongside the visit to Newport County at Rodney Parade on November 21.
No further matches can be added to the list of early kick-offs before March. However, more games could be moved later in the season under the EFL’s television agreement with Sky.
Every League Two club must be shown live at least 20 times during the campaign. Cup matches and Tuesday night fixtures count towards that total, so Swindon could have more matches selected for television as the season continues.
The meeting with Rotherham will give Swindon a chance to build on their 2-1 home win against The Millers last weekend. Town have also had a strong recent record in this fixture, winning five of their last six meetings.
Swindon won at Rotherham in last season’s FA Cup, when Darren Oldaker scored the winning goal in extra time. Town have not lost away to Rotherham since a 4-3 defeat in 2001.
That match saw Gary Alexander score twice for Swindon, while Ian Woan also found the net. Mark Robins scored a hat-trick for Rotherham, with Alan Reeves also scoring an own goal.
Swindon’s most recent league visit to Rotherham ended in a 4-0 win in 2013. Alex Pritchard, Massimo Luongo, Nicky Ajose and Dany N’Guessan scored in that match.
Rotherham’s results this season have left them 22nd in the table, level on points with Colchester United in the relegation zone. They have won two of their 14 games.
Head coach Alex Bruce is under increasing pressure, meaning Rotherham could be a different team by the time January’s fixture arrives.
