Milton Keynes Dons going all out for FA Cup win over Swindon Town

This weekend sees the resumption of the oldest cup competition in the world, as it is FA Cup First Round weekend, with Swindon drawn away to MK Dons.

Swindon will be looking to get over their poor record against the Buckinghamshire club, as they have one win and one draw in their last nine against them, with the sole victory arriving in the Jersey Mike’s Trophy.

Warne also has a good record against Swindon, only losing one of his four matches against them, with the defeat being that cup clash.

Town will be hoping to build on their strong record against League One opposition from last season, where they won five of their six clashes with third-tier sides.

But MK Dons have hit form at the right time, winning four of their last five games, and have netted ten goals in their last two matches.

That has been part of a strenuous schedule of six games in 20 days, but whilst Warne did give his players a few days off this week, he said that he will be going all out to win this weekend.

Speaking after their 6-1 win over Doncaster Rovers, he said: “It’s a pressure keg, and we’ve gone Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday; the lads cannot keep going at that pace without a break here and there.

“We’ve come right off them in training; we’ll come off them again in training this week, then I’ll pick a team for Saturday.

“I want to win. There’s an argument to say playing every week is the best training. When we took a battering off Reading, they continued playing in the international break when we didn’t. There’s a thin line between keeping the lads hungry and ready and injury prevention.

“We’ll give them a couple of days off, but will build up again and pick a team to win, then we’ll go to Bromley [in the EFL Trophy] and make significant changes for that.”

Swindon have not had the same kind of fixture congestion to contend with, as the trip to Plymouth Argyle is only their second Tuesday match since the start of October, and they are already out of the Jersey Mike’s Trophy.

However, they are dealing with a lot of injury issues and will likely be without ten players at Stadium MK.
