Road loss wraps Fife Flyers Challenge Cup qualifying round – now on to knockout tie

Published 7th Nov 2026, 11:35 GMT

Fife Flyers wrapped their Challenge Cup qualifying campaign with a 6-3 loss on the road to Glasgow Clan - but the result had no bearing on the outcome of the section.

Flyers had already secured the second qualifying spot making this a dead rubber of a game, and, despite the loss, they finished three points ahead of Clan in the four-team section.

A crowd of 3100 packed the Braehead Arena for this game which saw Flyers throw new two-way signing Lewis Young into the mix,

The opening period was fast and physical, with Glasgow creating several good opportunities in the first ten minutes. Clan broke the deadlock at 11:08 when Julius Reini scored with a powerful shot from the point past netminder Blake Pietila after being set up by Ross Armour.

Flyers equalised on the powerplay at 15:59 after Armour was penalised for hooking. Michael Drábek fired a heavy snap shot from the high slot past Liam Souliere to bring the visitors level.

The sides remained tied until 29:03, when Cole Kodsi produced an impressive individual effort, beating three defencemen before finishing five-hole on Pietila to restore Glasgow's lead.

A scrum away from the play following the goal saw Jake Johnson and Drábek sent to the penalty box, giving Glasgow a powerplay opportunity, but Pietila turned away Clan's attempts.

Jordan McLaughlin replaced Pietila in the Fife goal with 8:40 remaining in the second period, and just over two minutes later Keaton Pehrson extended Glasgow's advantage at 33:55.

His snap shot from the point beat McLaughlin, extending his point streak to three games.

Fife reduced the deficit to one at 38:08 with their second powerplay goal of the night. Joseph Pierce scored his third Challenge Cup goal with a powerful shot from the point that appeared to deflect off a Glasgow player on its way into the net.

Just over a minute into the third period, Zachary Power brought Fife level at 3-3 at 41:05, battling for the puck around the crease before poking it past Souliere.

Glasgow responded just 35 seconds later, with Tristin Langan finishing a cross-crease pass from Pehrson at 41:40 to put the Clan back in front.

Chris Dodero then opened his scoring account for Glasgow on the powerplay at 47:02, tipping a shot from the point past McLaughlin to make it 5-3.

Pehrson completed the scoring with his second goal of the night at 50:36, firing a quick wrist shot from the point past McLaughlin's glove after receiving a pass from Mick Messner.
