Today, John Higgins goes in search of a remarkable 34th ranking event title at the age of 51. But standing in the way of the four-time world champion is Kyren Wilson, who is bang on form at the International Championship in China. 2024 Crucible winner Wilson is bidding to win back-to-back events for the first time in his career.

The Warrior fought from 5-3 behind to beat Fan Zhengyi 10-6 in his semi-final in Nanjing and delivered bursts of 102, 84, 63, 100 and 53 to move within one match of glory in a stunning second session on Thursday.

Higgins, meanwhile, stormed into the final with a 9-2 demolition of Chinese star Chang Binyu yesterday. The Wizard of Wishaw, who lost in last year's final, would become the oldest-ever ranking event winner if he beats Wilson today, with £175,000 up for grabs too.

Here, Express Sport brings you all the latest updates in a rematch of this year's Masters final...

Kyren Wilson wins

The Warrior missed what the commentators called a 'title ball' to let Higgins back to the table, and start a period of safety play.

But he came out on top in that, leaving Higgins needing three snookers.

While he got one, it was Wilson who, after a nervy few minutes, secured the victory 10-8.

For that, he gets the £175,000 prize pot.

He is just one frame from victory!

Can he keep his nerve to get over the line?

A dramatic frame as Wilson takes the lead

As with other frames, Wilson looked to be heading for the lead. But with a 52-19 lead, he missed a simple black to again give Higgins the chance to steal.

He looked to be taking the chance, but missed the blue off the spot as he closed in on the frame.

Wilson bounced back and cleared the final three colours to take the lead

Brilliant response from Wilson

A brilliant opening red showed that the last frame hadn't impacted Wilson too much.

He took advantage with an incredible break of 130 to take the 12th frame.

John Higgins steals the 11th frame

A safety mistake by Higgins let Wilson in. He was closing in on the frame, but missed a difficult brown and potted the white to give Higgins another chance.

It was a chance he took brilliantly, in typical Higgins fashion, coming back from 69 points behind to win the frame 74-69.

Losing the frame will be a big blow to Wilson.

Kyren Wilson takes the first frame

Kyren Wilson's break was stopped at 16 when potting the pink while trying to break up the reds.

But John Higgins couldn't take advantage, missing the red into the bottom-right corner.

After a period of missed shots and safety play, Wilson was able to get back onto the table.

A 70-break was enough to again draw the scores level.

Shaun Murphy explains withdrawal decision

Shaun Murphy has explained his decision to withdraw from the international championship earlier in the tournament. He was due to play Mitchell Mann in the last 64, but withdrew from the tournament just a few days before, due to medical reasons.

Speaking on his Clear the Table podcast alongside fiancée Jo Rochell, Murphy explained:

"It's the first time I think in my life where I've pulled out of an event. I don't remember pulling out of many events. I think it's a first for me.

"I think I've just kind of got into the habit of...since turning pro, feeling so grateful for that opportunity to be a professional player, that I've just kind of taken as 'right, I must play every week'.

“I've just got to the point where I go 'Do you know what lads? I actually need to just step off this merry-go-round for a little while."

He added: "There are lots of reasons that have contributed to me taking to the decision to not go. I wouldn't say burnout, I wouldn't say tired. I'm not even sure whether it's in the mental health category. But I do want to take some time for myself just to go 'I'm not playing that week cause I actually think it's potentially damaging for the rest of the season or just my own personal well-being’”.

“Very, very grateful to be in the position where I don't have to go that tournament.

“And as I say, it's a multifaceted reason. I'm not going to share all of the reasons, but just wanting to take just a little breather for myself to get my head right, to get myself right on and off the table, and then hopefully finish the year well with some big tournaments”.

Wilson takes the lead again

It's Kyren Wilson who has again nudged himself in front in the seventh frame.

John Higgins missed a mid-red when trying to take control, allowing Wilson to the table, but a missed blue meant he only managed a break of 24.

In what was probably the closest frame of the match, the two players exchanged breaks. It was Wilson who came out on top 86-37 to take a slender 4-3 lead.

There are two more frames of the session left to play.

We're all level again

Higgins was given the first chance of the frame when Wilson missed a long red into the bottom right corner.

A break of 56 put him fully in control of the frame. He came out on top in a series of safety shots and was able to secure the frame to draw level.

The score stands at 3-3.

Wilson takes the fifth frame

Kyren Wilson was given a chance when Higgins potted the black to foul early, but he could only manage a 16-break after finishing awkwardly on a red.

After a couple of safety shots each, Higgins missed a difficult red into the middle pocket, allowing Wilson to return to the table.

A second break of 96 saw him take the frame.

Wilson leads by three frames to two.

Higgins aims to continue trio's epic run

Higgins has the chance to continue an epic run of Snooker's Class of 92.

Higgins, along with Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Williams, have been at the top of the game, all having turned professional 34 years ago.

O'Sullivan won his first ranking title in 1993, and since then, there has not been a year when at least one of the three has not won a ranking tournament.

But that's in danger of ending this year, unless Higgins comes out on top over Kyren Wilson today.
