India achieved a major milestone in the second T20I against New Zealand, becoming the second team after Pakistan to feature in 300 men's T20I matches. The Men in Blue entered the fixture after winning the opener by four wickets, chasing down a target of 226 runs.

Team India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl against New Zealand at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Saturday, October 24. The visiting team made two changes to their playing XI, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prince Yadav coming into the team.

India Chase Historic T20I Milestone in Christchurch

India reached the 300-match mark in men's T20I cricket during the ongoing fixture against New Zealand. Pakistan remain at the top of the list with 304 appearances since making their debut in the format in 2006.

Before the Christchurch fixture, India had recorded 199 outright wins, 83 defeats, seven ties and 10 no-results in 299 T20Is. A victory against New Zealand would make India the first team to register 200 outright wins in men's T20I cricket, excluding matches decided by Super Overs.

New Zealand rank third on the list with 269 matches, followed by the West Indies (260) and Sri Lanka (243). South Africa have played 235 T20Is, England 233, Australia 229, Bangladesh 222 and Zimbabwe 203.

India Make Two Changes to Playing XI Against New Zealand

India made two changes to their lineup for the second T20I. Ishan Kishan missed the match after suffering a low-grade right adductor, or groin, strain during the series opener. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi replaced him, while Prince Yadav came in for Mayank Yadav as a tactical change.

Shreyas Iyer confirmed that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi would bat at No. 3. The captain cited evening dew as one reason for choosing to bowl first and said the players had enough time to recover before the match.

"We're going to bowl first. Yes, absolutely. That's one of the reasons (on dew being a factor). We have had a little bit of time to recover and catch up on some sleep. Everyone is in decent shape, I would say," Iyer said.

"It is important to maintain the aggression and repeat the things we did well in the first game. In addition, we need to be proactive in the field and ensure we don't have an extra fielder inside the circle, especially in the last over," he added.

India Look to Extend Series Lead After Winning First T20I

India secured a four-wicket win in the series opener at the same venue on Thursday. New Zealand posted 225/4 after batting first, with Glenn Phillips scoring an unbeaten 82 off 40 balls and Finn Allen adding 45 off 24 deliveries.

In reply, Sanju Samson scored 67 off 33 balls, while Iyer made 42 off 28 deliveries. Naman Dhir then played a key role in the finish, scoring an unbeaten 42 off just 15 balls to complete the chase.

The victory gave India an early advantage in the five-match series. The visitors now have an opportunity to extend their lead while pursuing the milestone of 200 outright T20I wins. New Zealand, meanwhile, will look to use home conditions to level the series.
