The Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys faced off on Monday Night Football, but the fireworks were only one-sided as the visiting Cowboys picked up a 38-21, condemning the home team to fall to 2-5 after their fifth consecutive loss, their longest skid since 2016.
The Eagles are now facing growing frustration from their fan base following the loss, with questions also emerging about Tanner McKee’s performances and whether the team should consider giving Joe Milton an opportunity.
A number of fans have already called for a change at quarterback that could provide a much-needed spark to a struggling offense.
McKee initially seemed comfortable in the pocket in primetime, but his night went sideways pretty quickly.
He showed flashes of efficiency, including a lengthy third-quarter touchdown drive, but Philadelphia struggled to sustain its offense late in the game. His fourth-quarter interception compounded the Eagles’ problems as Dallas pulled away.
McKee finished MNF going 23-of-35 for 211 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also recorded one rushing attempt for a single yard and connected with eight different targets throughout the game. His 69.3 PFN QB Impact Score ranks #24 in the league this week.
McKee will look to improve his overall production, but his performance against Dallas has prompted some Eagles fans to call for Milton to take over as the starting quarterback.
“Eagles should start Joe Milton next week,” 97.3 ESPN FM’s Michal K-B wrote.
“Joe Milton should start next week,” a Philly fan page wrote, adding to the chorus.
“Start Milton next week just for fun bro,” another popular fan wrote.
“The Eagles should start Joe Milton; that would be crazy cool to see how he performs,” one more voice remarked.
However, McKee’s performance should also be viewed in context, as he played without DeVonta Smith, who was sidelined with a hamstring injury. The quarterback also missed Dontayvion Wicks, who was dealing with an ankle issue.
Given those absences, McKee’s numbers were respectable, even if they lacked the explosiveness the Eagles needed.
With Philadelphia sitting at just two wins, the team faces heavy pressure to find solutions ahead of the match against Jayden Daniels’ Washington Commanders. As the Eagles are preparing for their Week 8 game, some fans believe McKee has done little to justify keeping him under center.
“Tanner McKee is 6’5” and hasn’t even come close to completing a ball longer than 5 air yards downfield. Just a tall useless QB back there. Put Joe Milton in and at least attempt to stretch a defense once or twice,” an Eagles fan said.
“Yeah, that’s it for Tanner… Let’s see Joe Milton play next week,” the “Because I Feel Like It” podcast page wrote.
“Joe Milton vs Jayden Daniels. The world needs it,” injury analyst Jeff Muller said, adding to those growing calls.
Milton spent the 2025 season with the Cowboys as Dak Prescott’s backup. He performed well during the 2026 preseason with Dallas, completing 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions across three games.
The Cowboys waived Milton on August 31 during their final roster cuts before subsequently signing him to their practice squad. The Eagles later signed him off Dallas’ practice squad and added him to their 53-man roster ahead of their Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers.
