Morgan Rogers has settled into Chelsea’s front three better than anyone expected. The biggest compliment you can pay the former Aston Villa man is that no one is talking about his record-breaking £117 million price tag.

Rogers, Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro have contributed 13 goals and 10 assists between them already this season. They have established themselves as one of the best attacks in the Premier League, if not the best.

Rogers has now explained what makes Chelsea’s forwards so difficult for opposing defences to stop. Blues fans will hope the England international has not spoken too soon and that Tottenham’s backline will be dismantled at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

Morgan Rogers explains why Chelsea’s front three are a ‘mismatch’ for defenders

Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer are all excellent players, but that is not necessarily enough to make a great front three. We often see top players struggle to form partnerships with teammates who are not on the same wavelength or whose styles do not complement each other.

However, chemistry has not been an issue for Chelsea’s front three, from the opening minute of their first Premier League match against Fulham to now. All three have created several chances for each other and, more often than not, finished them off in style.

Chelsea have been dominant against Tottenham for many years, but what does Xabi Alonso need to do to ensure this run keeps going? The Blues haven't lost to Tottenham since 2023 👀

Rogers believes they have meshed so well because they all bring different strengths to the game. Pedro has developed into a world-class centre-forward, with the ability to hold the ball up, link up with his teammates, get into dangerous positions and take his chances.

Rogers is the most athletic of the three, often using his pace and power to get past defenders before shooting or crossing. Meanwhile, Palmer is a magician with the ball at his feet, possessing the technical ability to dictate the game at a slower pace or find his teammates in the blink of an eye.

The £117m signing insists defenders would be foolish to focus on just one of the trio, as doing so would create space for the others. He also appreciates how selfless and hard-working they all are, which helps to create a healthy atmosphere within the team.

“A lot of it is chemistry, and I think we attack and challenge defenders in completely different ways,” Rogers told Chelsea’s official site. “We all want the ball in different ways. We all want different things in the game, and if they try and stop one, then the other two are going to get their joy because we’re all so different.

“If you get people that are the same and want the same, once you cut that off, you’re struggling. But because we all want different things, if you try to stop Cole, then it allows me and Joao more space. If you try to stop me and Joao, then Cole’s going to be free as a bird to set his authority on the game.

“It’s kind of a mismatch for other teams of what to stop and how to stop it. We know that if we’re all on it and we’re all in the positive mindset of helping each other, that we’re all going to get joy from the game.”

Chelsea’s front three have already proven they are dangerous, but the next question is what they can achieve together. They need to continue dominating in big games and bring trophies to Stamford Bridge to be considered legends and earn comparisons with the greatest attacks in Premier League history.
