Kamada salvages a point for Palace against Hoffenheim

Things could have started well as Kamada had an early goal ruled out for offside, and soon after they were 1-0 down.

A rapid counter-attack from Hoffenheim saw Tim Lemperle hit a pinpoint cross to Alexander Prass, whose half-volley went through Dean Henderson and trickled into the net.

Henderson made up for the error to deny Hoffenheim a 2-0 lead, with the Palace captain tipping Andrej Kramarić’s volley around the post. The hosts were sluggish though, and the crowd became agitated and annoyed with what they were seeing.

It took 28 minutes for Pierre Sage’s side's first shot, and they should’ve done better, as Kamada fired wide from five yards out.

Boos rang around Selhurst Park for Palace at half-time, which was hardly surprising given how lacklustre they’d been.

Sage’s side dominated the ball in the early stages, but were once again fortunate to be 2-0 down as Fisnik Asllani squandered his 1v1, and fired wide of the left post.

Palace’s chances of getting back into the game were hampered by the stop-start nature, as the Eagles received four yellow cards in a matter of minutes. Their first real opportunity of the half fell to Yéremy Pino, but it was well saved by the onrushing Oliver Baumann.

Things got worse for Palace after Wharton was sent off by Horațiu Feșnic, having been judged to have put an arm in the face of Wouter Burger. It looks harsh because Wharton jumped to try and win a header and caught the Dutch midfielder ever so slightly.

Palace seemed to be headed for a second defeat of the Europa League campaign, until Kamada nicked a point at the end when he fired a close-range shot through the legs of Baumann.

The hosts couldn’t find a winner, but the Japanese international’s goal was enough to ensure a second successive draw in the Europe League. It could be a very important point too, with 9-10 points historically enough to qualify for the knockout play-off rounds.
