Mominul Haque's participation in the second Test against West Indies is in doubt after showing signs of concussion. BCB officials confirmed he will require medical clearance ahead of the game, scheduled to begin at Sylhet on November 5 (Thursday).
Jaker Ali Anik has been named as Bangladesh's concussion substitute for the rest of the first Test, after Mominul showed signs of concussion following a blow to the head.
Mominul was hurt while fielding in the 78th over of West Indies' first innings on the third day when he dropped Roston Chase on 27 while fielding at short leg.
Later team management officials informed that he showed signs of concussion and will not take further part in the match.
“Mominul Haque had suffered a head injury while fielding in the 78th over of the West Indies first innings. As he has shown signs of concussion, he has been replaced by Jaker Ali Anik as the concussion sub for the remainder of the match,” BCB said in a statement.
As per ICC concussion management guidelines, he will go through a graded return to play process, leading to a formal medical clearance.
Each stage of the rehabilitation should be reviewed to ensure that concussion symptoms have not returned.
Generally, concussion symptoms settle within two to three days, and a player diagnosed with concussion is ready to return in about a week. However, in some individuals, the duration could be shorter or longer.
The ICC standard recovery period for head concussions is 7-9 days. However if Mominul is to return before this standard time, he would have to pass the SCOAT6 test designed by the ICC. The test must be conducted by an independent neurological specialist.
BCB umpires committee official echoed the same sentiment when contacted by Cricbuzz.
“There are no guidelines like that (he cannot play before seven days) but there is a medical guideline in play and according to the guidelines, it is stated that if the doctors cannot provide a satisfactory report on his conditions, then he cannot play,” he added.
