It doesn't take much for a kicker to become a hero or a goat. The Arizona Cardinals' Chad Ryland experienced both tags on Sunday within minutes of their game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Gardner Minshew III led a furious Arizona rally after replacing the ineffective Jacoby Brissett. He threw three touchdown passes, the last with seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to get Arizona into a 30-30 tie with its NFC East foe.
All Ryland had to do was hit the PAT. He had not missed one since 2024 ... until the kick deep in the fourth quarter against the Cowboys.
The only bright side for Ryland and the Cardinals was the game was still tied at 30 and that meant NFL overtime.
In the extra session, Minshew led another drive and that set Ryland up for a chance at redemption and to be a hero.
He delivered with the game-winning field goal from 42 yards to give Arizona the 33-30 triumph.
Ryland found redemption. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wasn't happy and displayed his displeasure.
Jones said a lot of people let coach Brian Schottenheimer down and he didn't plan to make a coaching change during the season.
