Liverpool dream in tatters as Romano confirms ‘next mission’ at Bayern Munich after Kane
Fabrizio Romano on Liverpool
Fabrizio Romano gives the latest Liverpool transfer updates.

Any hope Liverpool had of signing Michael Olise are set to extinguished by Fabrizio Romano’s claims that Bayern Munich are looking to renew his contract.

The Reds have been long-term admirers of the France international, who moved from Premier League side Crystal Palace to Bayern Munich in a deal worth €60m in the summer of 2024.

Olise has since gone from strength to strength at the Allianz Arena with the Bayern Munich attacker providing 15 goals and 19 assists in 32 Bundesliga appearances last term.

The Frenchman has already contributed ten goals and four assists in 12 appearances in all competitions this term, while he finished ninth in the Ballon d’Or, which Bayern Munich team-mate Harry Kane won.

Kane was rewarded with a new contract and now Romano has revealed that persuading Olise to sign a new deal is the “next mission” on the agenda at Bayern Munich.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Bayern’s next mission after extending Harry Kane’s contract, will also be to extend the contract of Michael Olise, get a new deal done.”

The transfer insider added: “They are also very well aware of the appreciation of Michael Olise from Florentino Perez and Real Madrid.

“They had him very high in their thoughts during the summer; they even made a bid, but Bayern closed all the doors; they were not even considering an exit. Bayern want to stop all future attempts by agreeing to a new contract.”

When asked this week about the possibility of extending Olise’s deal, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said: “That’s something Max [Eberl, director of sport] and I are jointly responsible for. His contract runs until 2029, and we’ll sit down and discuss things at the appropriate time.”

The end of Liverpool hopes?

There have been reports in recent months indicating that Olise would be keen on a move to Liverpool if the opportunity arose because of the lure of Anfield and how players are remembered by the Reds faithful.

The best chance for Liverpool to sign Olise would be if the France international ran his contact down, which seems increasingly likely, while former Manchester United scout Mick Brown recently claimed that the Reds would be “all over” a deal for the ex-Crystal Palace star if there is ‘any indication’ he could leave.

Brown told Football Insider: “Michael Olise is an outstanding player; he’s shown that for Bayern Munich and for France.

“He’s being spoken about along with Harry Kane and Lamine Yamal as one of the front-runners for the Ballon d’Or, so it’s no surprise there will be interest in him.

“He has shown in the past he can do it in the Premier League with Crystal Palace, so that’s another box ticked as far as Liverpool are concerned.

“There have been whispers recently that he could leave Bayern Munich before too long, and obviously it’s unlikely to happen in January, but it could be on the cards next summer.

“If Liverpool are given any indication that Olise could be available, I expect they will be all over it, because he’s somebody they’ve wanted for a long time.”
