Ex-Premier League striker Victor Anichebe set to complete EFL club takeover

A wealthy African consortium including former Everton striker Victor Anichebe is set to complete a takeover at Bromley, talkSPORT understands.

The ex-Premier League star is in advanced talks to buy the newly-promoted League One club, amid their rise up the EFL.

Bromley have gone from the National League to the third tier of the English football pyramid in just two years.

Following promotion to League Two in 2024, they went on to get promoted to League One at the end of last season.

It was widely considered a fairy-tale story, but their first ever campaign at this level has got off to a horror start.

Promotion-winning manager Andy Woodman was dismissed on October 22 after five-and-a-half years in charge of the Ravens.

The 55-year-old admitted he was left 'upset' at the manner of his exit following a 4-0 defeat to Leicester City last month.

Bromley have failed to win any of the three matches since Woodman's axing and remain rooted to the bottom of League One.

Anichebe to complete Bromley takeover

The Hayes Lane outfit have just nine points from their opening 13 matches and have the division's worst goal difference with minus 20.

However, better times may be ahead now that Anichebe's consortium is closing in on a deal with Bromley owner Robin Stanton-Gleaves.

The 38-year-old was also linked to a potential takeover of non-league side Gateshead last year.

He is the owner and founder of Lumira Group, which is 'a long-term holding company investing in sport, education, healthcare and infrastructure across the UK'.

The former Nigeria international was recently involved in a £20million proposal for a new leisure development in Liverpool.

And he is now set to become a football club owner for the first time as he spearheads his group in the final negotiations for Bromley.

Anichebe's playing career

Anichebe has moved into the business side of sports since retiring from football in the summer of 2018.

But many fans will remember his days playing in the Premier League, where he made over 200 appearances.

He scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists across his spells with Everton, Sunderland and West Brom from 2006 to 2017.

The ex-forward spent the longest time at Everton, playing 168 times for the Toffees, scoring 26 goals in all competitions.

For West Brom, he netted nine times in 63 games, while for Sunderland, he scored three goals in 19 appearances.

On the international stage, Anichebe picked up 11 caps for Nigeria, scoring one goal for his country.
