The Ibrox hero, part of the side that won title number 55, was in charge of the non-league side but parted ways with them in July on the eve of the new season.
Now, it looks like he is set for a return to football four months later.
The Telegraph reports the 44-year-old is set to join League One side Bromley as one of the assistants to Karl Robinson.
The report states the former Salford City boss will take over at the third tier's bottom side and appoint Defoe as one of his assistants alongside Craig Short.
Bromley have been looking for a new head coach since the sacking of Andy Woodman, who was dismissed after the recent 4-0 defeat at home to Leicester City.
Defoe will be tasked with helping Robinson steer Bromley away from relegation.
Woking's statement when parting ways with the Rangers hero was: “Woking Football Club can confirm that the club and First Team Manager Jermain Defoe have mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect.
“We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Jermain for his contribution during his time at Woking Football Club, and we wish him every success in the future.
“The club remains fully focused on delivering its objectives both on and off the pitch.
“We would like to thank our supporters for their continued support.”
