Huddersfield Town defender Radinio Balker insists his side are “still trying to improve” despite sitting top of the League One table.
The Terriers moved three points clear at the summit of the division with their 1-1 draw against Luton Town on Tuesday evening.
Jordan Clark gave the fourth-placed Hatters a half-time lead at Accu Stadium, while Joe Taylor netted against his former club shortly after the restart to earn the hosts a point.
The draw moved the Terriers onto 29 points from 14 matches played, with Martin Drury’s side now unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of facing Luton, Balker said of his side’s lofty position in the league: “I think it’s just not looking at the table too much at this moment in time, you just need to try to win every game that you can, so that’s what I’m trying to do.
“It’s still early. We’re still trying to improve where we can, because that’s very important for later on in the season, because as you’ve seen last year, we were in a decent position as well at this time, of course not first, but at the end of the season we were falling off, so I hope we can now build something that we can build on for at the end of the season as well.
“For now, it’s just really, really nice to already be in a good position, but it’s now being keen to work hard to improve on the situations where we can improve in.”
Prior to Tuesday’s draw, Town had registered four straight victories in League One to move to the top of the division, and Balker added: “Winning is always a medicine I would say. If you’re losing three on the bounce, I think the confidence will always be a little bit less, even though you don’t want it to be, so it’s always good to win.
“I think you can see it also in the chances that now we are scoring in the big moments, where we might have missed it if you’ve lost three on the bounce. It’s always good to win and have a good spirit in the team.”
