The UCLA football team kept rolling in the Big Ten Conference with a 28-10 win against Michigan State on Saturday afternoon at the Rose Bowl.
Following the No. 7 Bruins' (7-0, 5-0 Big Ten) victory, UCLA senior quarterback Ty Dieffenbach spoke about his relationship with the Bruins' defense and is opinion of how they played against the Spartans. Dieffenbach has stepped up this season, coming into start for the Bruins after Nico Iamaleava's injury.
“Yeah, I’ve been on teams where you don’t hang out with guys on defense. But with this team, in the offseason, I was going with the linebackers or defensive linemen, and we were always together. I think that is one of the biggest differences on this team, and why we’re so close with each other. We aren’t just isolated within position groups, whether on the offensive or defensive side of the ball," he explained postgame. "I mean, our defense is so good. Just feeding off that energy, and especially at halftime, in our locker room I was a little banged up.
"Just like, a bunch of guys were coming over and saying like, ‘Let’s go man, we’ve got you.’ Just feeding off the energy and going out there, got a good play call, got a post against quarters, the safety came down, and just launched it. It was a great catch by (Brian Rowe Jr.) – just a great catching run on the finish, got the touchdown... I think it just sent a message that, ‘We’ve got you all.’ If we go three and out, they’re going to get a stop every time. It just gives us confidence. We’ve got to capitalize on turnovers. I think we did a good job with that tonight.
"The biggest thing is, like I said, when we get the ball back, just score.”
UCLA hosts Nevada (3-4) in non-conference action at 1:15 p.m. Saturday as the Bruins looks to remain unbeaten in the 2026 season.
