Manchester United are due to return to Old Trafford tomorrow afternoon to take on Bournemouth in the Premier League, but the game’s chances of going ahead are now at risk.
The two sides are coming into the fixture following juxtaposing prospects in Europe during mid-week, with United losing to Como whilst Bournemouth steamed past Ruben Amorim’s AC Milan 3-0.
In the Premier League table, though, just one point separates both teams following difficult starts to the league campaign.
United’s league form, which has seen them win one game in seven, has put severe pressure on Michael Carrick whilst the Cherries’ manager Marco Rose has not found settling into English football easy.
It creates an interesting paradox for tomorrow’s game, with two sides that arguably should be higher in the standings facing up against each other.
Storm Boelo might just get in the way of the match taking place, however, as the Met Office has now issued a yellow warning for wind ahead of tomorrow’s game.
The storm, expected to arrive on Saturday evening, could bring strong winds with it, creating the risk of flying debris which could impact the feasability and safety of a match going ahead.
No plans to postpone the match are currently planned, with no such update from Manchester United expected over the course of the next 24 hours.
Any decision relating to postponing the game would likely take into account the conditions in and around Old Trafford, whether supporters can easily travel to the game, and if matchday operations can be carried out as usual.
For now, though, supporters should continue to prepare for the match to go ahead as scheduled unless the club or other relevant authorities stay otherwise.
With important points on the table for both sides, and considering both teams’ schedules are already packed due to participating in Europe, they may hope that postponement remains a risk, not reality.
