Manchester United will take on Bournemouth tomorrow at Old Trafford with manager Michael Carrick under pressure to keep his job.
Disappointment on Tuesday evening against Como, in the Champions League, increased questions towards Carrick and United’s ownership.
Tomorrow’s fixture offers a chance for the Red Devils to take a step in the right direction and improve their confidence ahead of further crucial ties in the coming weeks.
For Manchester United Women’s boss Eva Olid, on the other hand, the sky is the limit. Six wins in a row have seen Olid’s team go from strength to strength but tomorrow’s clash with rivals Manchester City will pose their biggest test yet.
Whilst a large majority of Manchester United’s first-team squad will be available for tomorrow’s pivotal fixture, a number of individuals will not be able to play.
Forward Lea Schuller will not be amongst the injured group, though, after an injury scare in Manchester United’s victory over Liverpool last weekend.
When celebrating her goal in the game, Schuller appeared to have injured herself. Eva Olid has now confirmed that is not the case as she provided an update on her squad’s condition ahead of tomorrow’s tie.
“No updates, [just] the same long-term injuries we had,” Olid said to United’s media team alongside reporters.
It means that Schuller will be available for tomorrow’s crucial tie, providing the manager with another option in her attacking arsenal.
Celin Bizet Donnum, Jayde Riviere and Emma Watson will not feature, however, as they each continue their recovery from injuries.
Fridolina Rolfo will also not be available for the fixture as she prepares for giving birth after announcing her pregnancy in September.
Victory against Manchester City would not only hand Manchester United the bragging rights, but would also bring them closer together in the Women’s Super League table.
With Lea Schuller in the squad, and with plenty of other talented individuals also available throughout, anything is possible.
