Baron Corbin’s confrontation with Cody Rhodes on WWE SmackDown has resulted in a significant setback, with WWE confirming the former champion will be sidelined for an indefinite period.
The announcement came during the October 23 episode, following the shocking conclusion to the previous week’s show.
The incident unfolded as Rhodes’ rivalry with Randy Orton continued to escalate, with Corbin becoming caught in the middle of their increasingly personal conflict.
The trouble began on the October 16 episode of SmackDown when Corbin interrupted Rhodes, leading to an impromptu match between the two. Orton interrupted their contest, and his involvement sparked a chaotic brawl involving all three men.
The Viper attempted to gain the upper hand, but the situation shifted when Cody Rhodes countered and turned his attention toward his former mentor. Corbin subsequently intervened, allowing Randy Orton to move away from the immediate confrontation.
Rhodes then delivered a brutal Punt Kick to Baron Corbin’s head while Orton watched from outside the ring. The attack brought the show to a close and marked another aggressive moment in the ongoing rivalry between the former Legacy teammates.
During the following week’s broadcast, Michael Cole revealed the extent of Corbin’s injuries. WWE confirmed that he had suffered a cervical muscle strain, an orbital bone contusion, and blurred vision. Cole also announced that Baron Corbin would remain out of action indefinitely, with no return date provided.
The update leaves questions about when Corbin will be able to return to the blue brand. It also adds another layer to Rhodes’ developing conflict with Orton, as the former Undisputed WWE Champion has shown a willingness to use increasingly ruthless tactics.
Rhodes and Orton are scheduled to meet in a Last Man Standing match at Crown Jewel on November 7. Their upcoming encounter now follows an incident that has written Corbin out of the immediate picture.
For Corbin, the focus turns to recovery, while Rhodes and Orton prepare for a match where neither man can afford to stay down for long.
