January Nears & Tresoldi To Arsenal Just Won’t Go Away

Following on from last season’s exploits where manager Mikel Arteta finally saw Arsenal over the line and into top spot to once again lift the Premier League title, the 2026/27 campaign has been slow, steady and arguably even more regimented – just without the obsession from others on set pieces. But with goals in focus, we have fresh links to young German hot shot Nicolo Tresoldi.

Having very sensibly improved the quality and depth of the gaffer’s first team options during the summer transfer window, former Aston Villa centre half Ezri Konsa, in particular, seems to be going from strength to strength right now. With nine games played, eight wins and 14 goals sees our advantage already established with a tally of 24 points. Like a roulette wheel at Boylesports and other live dealer tables, the nearest chasers at this very early stage of the season remain Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City side, as they sit three points below us in second spot courtesy of their recent back to back defeats. It is obviously way too early to call what the wheel will show when it finally stops spinning.

Having spent well during the summer, it would seem unlikely that our board would again sanction major spending during the January transfer window when the New Year arrives, but as Gooners everywhere will remember, despite the very heavy speculation rumour mill claims of an interest in Spanish La Liga star Julian Alvarez, ultimately no deal was struck with Atletico Madrid.

We have since seen claims that come January we will try again for the 26 year Argentine World Cup winner and would potentially include striker Viktor Gyokeres as a makeweight in a swap plus cash deal. Nicolo Tresoldi has previously featured on the rumour mill as an additional possible option for us, and with the New Year edging nearer there is a growing fervour in the Italian press that something will soon happen on this front.

As many fans will already be aware, Tresoldi was born in Cagliari, Italy, but the talented and highly rated 22 year old talent switched his allegiance to Germany and he chose to represent their Under 19 set up back in 2022. He has since gained 27 caps at Under 21 level, scoring 16 goals.

Having originally spurned Italy and decided to come through the ranks of German Bundesliga 2 side Hannover 96, where he ultimately impressed, he made the switch to Belgian Pro League side Club Brugge. Champions League experience and goals followed, and his debut season saw him end as top scorer with 19 efforts to his name. His first Champions League hattrick (against Inter Milan) came the following year.

It seems he is happy to choose his route in life, and he still remains eligible to switch internationally to either Italy or Argentina, when he reaches full level and he is already fluent in four languages – Italian, German, English and Spanish. The latter two naturally lend themselves to the English Premier League and Spanish La Liga rumours we have seen in the last 18-24 months.

Although it seems that the Italian press would rather he signed for AC Milan, Arsenal have long been listed as the main challenger here – but we are not alone as Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are also regularly name checked.

It does feel that there is a groundswell here, but with January so close, we will just have to see if there is any movement on this front.
