Brooks Koepka chose not to report 'really bad' PGA Tour rule breach that he saw
Brooks Koepka revealed why he didn't confront a rules offical at a Tour event

Brooks Koepka didn’t go to rules officials during a PGA Tour event because he knew golf karma had him covered.

During an appearance on Dan Rapaport's Dan on Golf show, the five-time major winner spoke about the challenges of policing players who reportedly improve their lies in the rough, as he made a PGA Tour comeback this year and left a massive blow to LIV Golf. He admitted that he chose not to report one rule violation to officials at a PGA Tour tournament, trusting instead that outside forces would cover him.

“I've noticed a lot of guys do it, and guys get away with it more because you're not on top of them,” Koepka explained.

The former LIV Golf star acknowledged noticing competitors take advantage of the rules, especially when they think no one is paying attention, even though Bryson DeChambeau was a prime example of being caught on camera at the Open Championship.

“So I might be over there hitting my shot, but you're over here in the left rough and guys definitely do it, but it's just how are you going to prove it?” Koepka continued.

Koepka turned professional in 2012 and has won nine times on the PGA Tour, meaning the well-known golf veteran has probably seen a list of lengthy rulings that were never pointed out. But he recalled one incident from last year that stuck out to him.

“There's one I saw this year that was really bad,” Koepka said, trying not to smile. “I'm not going to name the player, he's not playing in this [Skins Game], but it was pretty bad.”

Koepka described having a clear line of sight during a chip shot, recalling, “It was a chip. I saw it. It was really bad. He went for the backswing and you could see the whole ball.”

Koepka, despite being sure of the ruling, didn’t confront a rules official. The golf analyst asked why Koepka chose not to flag it.

“I just ate that one because karma came and bit him on the next hole,” Koepka revealed. “I think he made a double or a triple on the next hole so I was like what am I going to say? But it was interesting.”

Koepka said he wouldn’t have been able to prove that he breached the rules.

“What am I going to do?” asked Koepka. “I can't prove it, and like at the same time, I understand guys have got to put the club down here, but if you keep putting the club down of course...”
