Cameron Young says he will 'never forget' Scottie Scheffler mistake
Cameron Young spoke highly of Scottie Scheffler

After witnessing Scottie Scheffler drive a tee shot out of bounds during the Tour Championship, Cameron Young admitted to being completely stunned.

But, the 2026 Players Championship winner shared what he found so impressive about how the world No. 1 responded to the rough tee shot.

Scheffler has four major championship titles, a US Open victory away from becoming the seventh man to complete the career Grand Slam. He also surpassed Tiger Woods in career earnings on the PGA Tour and collected three wins during the 2026 season. Young won two events this year at the Cadillac Championship and TPC Sawgrass, but he still learns from the World No. 1 each day.

In an interview with 5 Clubs, Young detailed how astonished he was by his fellow countryman's reaction after a major blunder during the Tour Championship, noting that he admires Scheffler's approach to golf above all others.

"He talks about it all the time, and you can see it in the cadence of how he does things, the freedom that he executes with, it's admirable the way that he's done that,” said Young. “To me, it looks like he just pushes the button and goes.

“He clicks a button and he'll go through the same process and he executes the shot and he moves on.”

Jordan Spieth has also praised Scheffler’s personality, noting that he is immovable and hard to crack personality wise speaking on the Up and Adams show during the Players Championship.

"I'll never forget, I think it was last year at East Lake, we were playing together on Sunday maybe, and he hit the worst shot I've ever seen him hit. I think he hit it out of bounds left off the first tee,” said Young.

“And I was in shock, but he didn't react, teed up a ball, hit it in the fairway, hit seven iron to like two feet, tapped in for bogey, and I think was one under through four.

“I had striped it off the first tee and was one over through four. I think that was a striking example of he just started over, hit another shot and moved on, and hit another good shot after that. You never would have known what happened."

Young has enjoyed an impressive year on the PGA Tour, standing out as team USA's top performer at both last September's Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup last month.
