AC Milan Chairman Confirms Plans To Strengthen Squad During January Transfer Window

Ac Milan Bombshell: Gerry Cardinale Promises Aggressive January Spending As Major Squad Changes Loom

AC Milan chairman Gerry Cardinale has delivered an exciting message to the club’s supporters, confirming that the Italian giants are preparing to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window.

The RedBird Capital owner has made it clear that the club intends to remain active in the market, with the objective of adding quality players and improving the depth available to head coach Ruben Amorim.

Cardinale’s comments come as Milan continue rebuilding under Amorim, who was appointed to lead a new project aimed at restoring the club’s position among Europe’s leading football teams.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Cardinale admitted that the club could not complete all its transfer objectives during the previous summer window. He therefore expects further recruitment as Milan work towards building a squad capable of competing consistently across different competitions.

“We are planning new signings in January, we want to be aggressive on the market,” Cardinale said.

“In the summer we couldn’t do all we wanted and so we will keep adding players to our squad.”

The Milan chairman’s statement suggests that the club’s rebuilding process is far from complete.

Although several players arrived during the summer, Cardinale believes the squad still requires improvements, particularly when it comes to having enough quality alternatives to cope with injuries and a demanding fixture schedule.

He explained that completing the project could require another two transfer windows, meaning supporters should expect continued changes rather than viewing January as the final stage of the rebuild.

Cardinale also stressed that Milan must develop a squad capable of maintaining its performance levels when important players are unavailable.

This is particularly relevant given the physical demands of Amorim’s high-intensity football, which requires players to cover significant distances, press aggressively and transition quickly between defence and attack.

Milan’s recruitment strategy is expected to focus on strengthening areas where the coaching staff needs additional options.

Reports surrounding the club have identified central defence, attacking midfield and the forward line as positions that could receive attention.

Sporting CP defender Gonçalo Inácio and Real Madrid youngster Endrick have been mentioned in transfer discussions, although no completed agreements have been announced. Any potential deal would depend on negotiations, availability and the clubs involved.

Cardinale has nevertheless made it clear that Milan will approach the window with ambition while remaining careful about spending.

He indicated that the club wants players who meet the standards associated with the Milan shirt, rather than making signings simply to increase squad numbers.

Cardinale made it clear that he remains committed to the Portuguese coach and believes the team needs time to develop its identity under the new leadership.

The January window could therefore provide Amorim with an opportunity to address weaknesses, improve competition for places and build a squad better suited to his tactical demands.
