Chiefs Sporting Director Sends Strong Message Amid Mngqithi Speculation

Kaizer Motaung Jr Breaks Silence on Manqoba Mngqithi Rumours as Chiefs Back Fernando Da Cruz

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has strongly dismissed reports linking the club with a possible move for experienced coach Manqoba Mngqithi, insisting that the allegations are “completely lies” as speculation continues over the technical direction at Naturena.

The rumours emerged after journalist Innocent Mkhize reportedly claimed that discussions had taken place between Chiefs and Mngqithi regarding a potential coaching role. The report also suggested that Mngqithi would not retain the current technical team if he were appointed, further fuelling uncertainty among Amakhosi supporters.

However, Motaung Jr has firmly rejected the claims, making it clear that the reported discussions should not be treated as confirmation of a possible coaching change.

The denial comes as Chiefs continue to back current head coach Fernando Da Cruz and his technical team. The club is under pressure to improve its consistency and restore its position among South Africa’s leading football teams.

Da Cruz faces the difficult task of building a competitive squad capable of challenging traditional rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns for major honours. Supporters have high expectations, and performances on the pitch will remain crucial in determining the club’s progress.

Mngqithi, meanwhile, remains a respected figure in South African football, having gained considerable coaching experience, particularly during his time at Mamelodi Sundowns. His tactical knowledge has made him a name frequently associated with coaching speculation involving major Premier Soccer League clubs.

Nevertheless, being linked with a club does not necessarily mean that negotiations have taken place.

While Mkhize’s report suggested that discussions were underway, Motaung Jr’s response directly contradicts that account. No independent confirmation has established whether any talks occurred.

For now, Chiefs’ public position indicates continued support for Da Cruz as the club seeks stability and improved results. Until credible evidence suggests otherwise, reports of a possible Mngqithi appointment should be treated cautiously, with attention remaining on Da Cruz and his efforts to meet the expectations of the Amakhosi faithful.
