Manchester United Face Growing Premier League Pressure After Taking Just Seven Points From Nine Game

Manchester United Crisis Deepens: Just 7 Points From 9 Games As Chelsea Deliver Another Blow

Manchester United’s difficult start to the 2026/27 Premier League campaign has reached another worrying point after their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, 31 October.

The result leaves United with just seven points from nine league matches, placing them 16th in the Premier League standings. With only one victory recorded so far, the pressure surrounding the club’s performances and leadership continues to grow.

For a club with United’s history and expectations, sitting so close to the relegation zone after nine matches is a deeply concerning situation. Supporters who expected a stronger campaign are now facing difficult questions about the direction of the team.

United travelled to Stamford Bridge hoping to secure a result that could help revive their struggling campaign. However, Chelsea proved too strong in the second half.

Morgan Rogers opened the scoring in the 50th minute before Cole Palmer converted a penalty in the 64th minute to give the hosts a two-goal advantage.

The afternoon became even more difficult for United when defender Lisandro Martínez was sent off following a VAR review. The dismissal left the visitors with another obstacle as they attempted to get back into the contest.

Despite showing some positive moments before the break, United failed to produce the response required to change the outcome.

The defeat extended their winless Premier League run to nine matches, according to Reuters, leaving manager Michael Carrick under increasing pressure.

United’s record after nine league fixtures tells a concerning story.

They have managed just one win, four draws and four defeats, collecting seven points from a possible 27. They have scored 10 goals and conceded 15, leaving them with a negative goal difference of five.

Their only league victory came against Ipswich Town, when they secured a 5-2 win on 30 August.

Since then, results have failed to improve sufficiently. Draws against Everton, Fulham, Tottenham and Leeds have been accompanied by defeats against Manchester City, Bournemouth, Hull and now Chelsea.

The recent 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth was another major disappointment, and Saturday's loss has further increased the pressure.

Carrick now faces the difficult task of finding a solution to United’s problems before the situation becomes even more complicated.

The concerns extend beyond individual results. United need greater consistency, improved defensive organisation and more effectiveness in front of goal.

Their position in 16th place also means there is little room for further mistakes. Several clubs around them are competing for points, and another poor run could pull the former English champions closer to the relegation places.
