Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Rodney Ramagalela has commended Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou for continuing to trust Yanela Mbuthuma despite the young forward coming under criticism from some supporters.

Mbuthuma has experienced a challenging period at the Soweto club, with some fans questioning his performances. However, Ouaddou has maintained his confidence in the striker and continued to provide him with opportunities to develop and contribute to the team.

Ramagalela believes the Pirates manager deserves credit for refusing to abandon the youngster during a difficult spell. According to the former striker, consistent support from a coach can be particularly important for young players whose confidence may be affected by criticism.

Playing for a club of Pirates' stature comes with considerable expectations, with supporters demanding strong performances and positive results. For an emerging player, handling those pressures while attempting to establish a regular place in the first team can be challenging.

Ouaddou's decision to keep Mbuthuma within his plans demonstrates his belief that the striker has the ability to improve. Instead of dropping him completely following a period of inconsistent form, the coach has continued to give him opportunities to gain experience and adapt to the demands of top-level football.

Ramagalela's comments also underline the importance of patience when developing young talent. Players at the beginning of their professional careers can experience fluctuations in form as they adjust to the intensity and expectations of senior football.

Mbuthuma has shown promising moments, and continued backing from his coach could help him rebuild confidence and produce more consistent performances.

For Pirates, maintaining the confidence of their younger players could prove important as the club pursues success across various competitions.

Ouaddou's approach may also encourage other members of the squad to remain committed, knowing that a difficult run does not necessarily mean their opportunities will disappear.

With the campaign still ongoing, Mbuthuma has opportunities ahead to respond to the backing he has received and demonstrate his value to the Pirates squad.
