Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has reportedly returned to competitive football after spending more than 18 months without a professional club, with the experienced player now featuring in the Hollywoodbets Regional League.
The 33-year-old midfielder previously established himself in South African football through his performances for AmaZulu and Kaizer Chiefs, gaining valuable experience in the country’s top division.
Sithebe joined Amakhosi in 2022 after leaving AmaZulu, hoping to strengthen the Soweto club’s midfield. However, competition for places and changes within the technical team reportedly made it difficult for him to secure a consistent position in the starting line-up.
Although he made several appearances for Chiefs, the midfielder eventually fell out of favour as the club continued to adjust its squad. His departure subsequently left questions about where he would continue his career.
His reported return through the regional league offers an opportunity to regain match fitness and demonstrate that he can still contribute on the pitch.
The Hollywoodbets Regional League provides a platform for players to remain active and potentially attract interest from clubs competing at higher levels.
It remains unclear whether Sithebe intends to continue in the regional competition or use the opportunity as a stepping stone towards a return to professional football.
For now, his reported comeback marks a fresh chapter in his career after an extended period away from the professional game. Supporters will be watching to see how the experienced midfielder performs in his latest footballing venture.
