Carrick Sets Unwanted Manchester United Record After Defeat To Chelsea Extends Winless Run

Carrick Sets Unwanted Record As Man Utd Fall To Chelsea — Nine Games Without A Win

Manchester United’s difficult campaign has reached another worrying point after Michael Carrick’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, extending their winless run to nine matches in all competitions.

The result represents Manchester United’s longest period without a victory since 1988, placing further pressure on Carrick as questions continue to emerge about his future at Old Trafford.

United travelled to London hoping to end their disappointing run, but despite showing promise during the opening stages, they failed to convert their opportunities and eventually paid the price for defensive mistakes.

The defeat also marked their third consecutive loss, leaving the club dangerously close to the Premier League relegation zone.

Manchester United showed positive signs in the first half and created opportunities that could have changed the direction of the match.

Captain Bruno Fernandes returned to the starting line-up, while Matheus Cunha and Amad Diallo also threatened Chelsea’s defence.

However, United could not turn their promising moments into goals. Cunha even had an effort ruled out for offside, while other opportunities went begging.

Chelsea gradually found their rhythm and made the breakthrough shortly after the interval.

Morgan Rogers produced an impressive individual effort in the 50th minute, carrying the ball through the United defence before calmly finishing past goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

The goal changed the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge and placed the visitors under even greater pressure.

United’s afternoon became considerably more difficult when defender Lisandro Martinez was sent off following an incident involving Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana.

Martinez received a second yellow card after making contact with Fofana inside the penalty area. The referee awarded Chelsea a penalty, giving the home side an opportunity to extend their advantage.

Cole Palmer stepped forward and converted from the spot in the 64th minute, making it 2-0 and leaving United with a difficult task while playing with ten men.

The dismissal effectively ended hopes of a comeback, with Chelsea managing the remainder of the contest to secure all three points.

The defeat has intensified scrutiny of Carrick’s position as Manchester United manager. His team have now gone nine matches without winning across all competitions, a statistic that reflects the seriousness of their current struggles.

United are also just one point above the Premier League relegation zone, making their situation increasingly uncomfortable.

Despite the disappointing result, Carrick indicated after the match that he expected to remain in charge for Tuesday’s Champions League meeting with Roma.

He acknowledged that his team had shown positive signs before the break but admitted that the match unravelled quickly after Chelsea scored.

Manchester United now face an important opportunity to respond when they welcome Roma to Old Trafford.

However, the pressure will not disappear simply because another fixture is approaching. Supporters want improved performances, greater consistency and, most importantly, victories.
