Kaizer Chiefs vice-captain Inacio Miguel has come to the defence of teammates Renaldo Leaner and Reeve Frosler following their heated exchange after Amakhosi’s CAF Confederation Cup defeat to Red Arrows.
The incident occurred after Chiefs suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to the Zambian outfit in Ndola, leaving the Soweto giants under pressure ahead of the return leg. Footage of the confrontation circulated on social media, sparking speculation about possible tensions within the dressing room.
However, Miguel believes the incident should not be interpreted as a sign of division at Naturena. Instead, the Angolan defender sees the confrontation as evidence of the players’ frustration and determination to improve the team’s results.
“Personally, I’m happy with this kind of behaviour; it feels like we felt the loss,” Miguel explained, emphasising that the disappointment was shared by both the players and supporters.
The Chiefs vice-captain insisted that the exchange was simply a difference of opinions between teammates rather than a serious internal problem. He also suggested that the footage had created a misleading impression of the atmosphere within the squad.
Miguel believes Amakhosi need more aggression, passion and accountability, particularly after struggling to deliver consistent results in recent seasons.
“For me, I see the solution in that behaviour, that passion that we need. Sometimes it’s lacking,” he added, highlighting the importance of players showing how much results matter to them.
The confrontation comes at a difficult period for Chiefs, who have been searching for consistency and were left needing a strong response after their defeat in Zambia.
Coach Fernando Da Cruz also played down the incident, describing it as an emotional moment between two players following a competitive match.
With questions being raised about the team’s unity, Miguel’s comments offer a different perspective. Rather than viewing the exchange as a crisis, he believes the frustration displayed by Leaner and Frosler could help drive the team forward.
Chiefs must now channel those emotions into performances on the pitch, with their ambitions of reaching the CAF Confederation Cup group stages demanding a determined response.
For Miguel, the message is clear: the players must care deeply about winning, but they must turn their frustration into results when it matters most.
