Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have recorded their first victory at the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League after defeating Cameroonian side Lekié Football Filles on Wednesday afternoon.

The South African champions entered the competition hoping to make a strong impression and continue their reputation as one of the leading forces in women's football on the African continent. After facing the challenge of their opening match, the Brazilians were determined to get their campaign back on track and collect their first three points.

Their victory over Lekié Football Filles represents an important moment for the team as they continue their journey in the continental competition. Winning matches at this level is never easy, especially when facing opponents who are equally determined to make their mark.

Sundowns Ladies have established themselves as a major force in African women's football over the years. Their success in previous editions of the competition has helped them build a reputation for competing at the highest level, and expectations remain high whenever they represent South Africa.

The team has consistently demonstrated its quality through strong performances, discipline and an attacking approach. Their experience in continental competitions could also prove valuable as they look to navigate the challenges of the tournament.

Wednesday's victory will provide the players with additional confidence as they prepare for their remaining group-stage fixtures. Securing three points is particularly important because every result can influence a team's chances of progressing to the knockout stages.

For the technical team, the result will also offer encouragement after the work put into preparing the squad for the competition. However, there is still more to be done, with the players expected to maintain their concentration and consistency in the matches ahead.

The CAF Women's Champions League remains a highly competitive tournament, bringing together some of the best women's football clubs from across Africa. Every participating team is fighting for continental recognition and the opportunity to lift the prestigious trophy.

Sundowns Ladies will now turn their attention to their next assignment as they aim to build on this positive result.

Their supporters will be hoping that the Brazilians can maintain their winning momentum, collect more points and move closer to another successful campaign in Africa.

For now, the first victory is an important boost for the South African champions as they continue their pursuit of continental glory.
