Hope FC recorded an impressive victory in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, securing their biggest win of the 2026/27 campaign so far after defeating Gomora United 3-0 away from home.
The result was particularly encouraging for Hope FC, who produced an excellent performance despite playing with ten men for part of the encounter. Their victory also brought attention to the contribution of a Kaizer Chiefs loanee, who continues to gain valuable experience away from Naturena.
Hope FC travelled to face Gomora United on Saturday, October 31, determined to collect maximum points and improve their position on the league table. They delivered exactly that, finding the back of the net three times without conceding.
The victory was even more impressive considering that Hope FC had to deal with a numerical disadvantage after receiving a red card. However, the visitors remained organised and disciplined, preventing Gomora United from taking advantage of having an extra player.
The three points helped Hope FC move up to fourth position, joining Real Native and Cape Town City on 17 points, although the teams had different numbers of matches played at the time.
Meanwhile, there were contrasting results elsewhere in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, with Orbit College and Venda Football Club continuing their difficult starts to the season.
The two struggling sides met on Friday, October 30, but neither could find a breakthrough as their encounter ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw.
Both clubs were desperate for their first league victory of the campaign, but they had to settle for a point each. The result extended their wait for maximum points and increased the pressure to improve in their upcoming fixtures.
Orbit College, who were competing in the Betway Premiership last season, have found life difficult following their return to the second tier. Venda FC have also struggled to collect points and remain among the teams battling near the bottom of the standings.
Elsewhere, Lerumo Lions continued their impressive run with a convincing 3-1 victory over the University of Pretoria, while The Bees defeated Midlands Wanderers 2-0.
The latest results have made the promotion race increasingly interesting, with several clubs showing that they have the quality to challenge for a place in the Betway Premiership.
For Hope FC, the victory over Gomora United represents an important step forward. Their ability to secure all three points despite being reduced to ten players will provide confidence as they prepare for their next challenge.
However, Orbit College and Venda FC must quickly find a winning formula if they are to avoid spending the remainder of the campaign fighting against relegation.
