Orlando Pirates Maintain Pressure at the Top as Chiefs Suffer Derby Defeat

The Betway Premiership standings have shifted following an action-packed weekend of football, with several clubs picking up crucial victories while others missed the opportunity to collect valuable points.

One of the biggest highlights of the weekend was the highly anticipated Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The Buccaneers emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over their bitter rivals, securing maximum points and strengthening their challenge for the league title.

The defeat was a disappointing setback for Kaizer Chiefs, who had hoped to come away with a positive result against their biggest rivals. However, Amakhosi must now shift their focus to their upcoming matches as they look to recover from the setback and improve their position on the league table.

Meanwhile, defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns also enjoyed a convincing weekend after producing an impressive 4-1 victory against Durban City. The Brazilians showcased their attacking quality throughout the encounter, collecting all three points and maintaining their place among the leading teams in the competition.

Marumo Gallants were also among the weekend's winners after overcoming Siwelele FC 3-2 in an entertaining encounter on Friday, October 30. Both sides managed to find the back of the net, but Gallants eventually did enough to secure an important victory.

Saturday's fixtures produced several other notable results, with Kruger United recording a 3-1 triumph over Richards Bay. Chippa United also delivered an impressive performance away from home, defeating Stellenbosch FC 2-0 to claim all three points.

AmaZulu FC continued their encouraging run with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows. The narrow win earned Usuthu another important three points as they attempt to remain competitive in the Betway Premiership standings.

Elsewhere, Polokwane City and TS Galaxy were unable to separate themselves after playing out a 0-0 draw. Neither team managed to score during the encounter, forcing both sides to share the points.

Milford FC also celebrated an important result after securing a 1-0 victory against Sekhukhune United. The win handed Milford three valuable points and an opportunity to strengthen their position on the league table.

The weekend's results once again demonstrated the competitiveness of the Betway Premiership, with clubs continuing to battle for important points as the campaign progresses.

Orlando Pirates will take considerable confidence from their Soweto Derby triumph as they continue pursuing the league title. Mamelodi Sundowns will also be encouraged by their commanding performance against Durban City as they look to maintain their challenge at the top of the standings.

For Kaizer Chiefs, however, the immediate priority will be responding positively to their defeat against Pirates. With plenty of football still to be played, the competition remains open, and consistency will be crucial for every club hoping to achieve its targets this season.
