Wandile Duba has given Kaizer Chiefs supporters another reason to celebrate after producing a memorable performance against TS Galaxy and securing his place among the club’s hat-trick scorers.
The 22-year-old striker scored three times as Amakhosi defeated The Rockets 3-0 in their Carling Knockout Cup last-16 encounter earlier this week. His goals not only helped Chiefs progress to the quarter-finals but also earned him a place in a special chapter of the club’s history.
According to Chiefs’ historical records, Duba has become the 24th player to score a hat-trick for the club since the 1996/97 season. He is also the 19th Amakhosi player to achieve the feat in all competitions during the Premier Soccer League era.
His achievement carries additional significance because he is the first Chiefs player to score three goals in a Carling Knockout Cup match. The academy graduate has also become the club’s first hat-trick scorer since Caleb-Bonfils Bimenyimana netted three penalties in a 3-1 league victory over Stellenbosch FC.
Duba’s latest performance has strengthened his position as Chiefs’ leading goalscorer this season. He has now recorded six goals in seven appearances across all competitions in the 2026/27 campaign.
The young forward has followed in the footsteps of other celebrated Amakhosi marksmen. In 1987, Marks Maponyane scored a hat-trick in a knockout cup match against Durban City, making Duba’s achievement part of a tradition that stretches back decades.
However, the club’s most prolific hat-trick scorer remains the late Patrick ‘Ace’ Ntsoelengoe. Historical records credited to Chiefs show that the legendary forward registered 14 hat-tricks across all competitions.
While Duba still has a long way to go before approaching that remarkable figure, his performance against TS Galaxy has placed him among the players whose names feature in the club’s goalscoring history.
Chiefs will now turn their attention to the Carling Knockout quarter-finals, where they are scheduled to face Siwelele FC during the weekend of November 7 and 8.
For Duba, the challenge will be to maintain his scoring form and build on a breakthrough campaign that has already delivered a historic milestone.
